Orchard Park, NY - Local pest management professionals John and Christine Zimmerman of Buffalo Exterminating met with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Brian Higgins in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the pest management industry to discuss issues related to the industry.

The Zimmermans visited Senator Gillibrand's office and Congressman Higgins on Capitol Hill during Legislative Day in February, an annual event coordinated by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). The event brings together pest management professionals and their legislators to talk about critical issues, such as managing pests in schools and other settings.  Buffalo Exterminating is a member of the NPMA, which represents the $6 billion pest management industry on legislative and regulatory initiatives at the federal and state levels.

"Discussing these topics with federal lawmakers is key to solving issues that affect the entire country," says John Zimmerman.  "More importantly, such meetings and interaction give us a chance to address specific issues pertinent to our own community and our customers.  As a pest management professional and a concerned citizen, I look forward to the chance to make a difference."

In meetings with the legislators and and their staffs, the Buffalo Exterminating representatives discussed reducing regulatory burdens pertaining to the Clean Water Act as well as important bed bug legislation.  During the legislative briefings, the Zimmermans heard from former RNC Chair and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour and Clinton aide and Fox commentator, Dick Morris.

The NPMA, a non-profit organization with more than 7,000 members, was established in 1933 to support the pest management industry's commitment to the protection of public health, food and property. The NPMA is comprised of pest management companies, distributors and manufacturers.  For more information, visit www.npmapestworld.org.
